Advanced course on radio
POSRAD is an advanced postgraduate course that offers an opportunity for electrical engineers to update and advance their knowledge on the area of wireless communication systems.
This advanced course on the design of radio systems fits the strategy of University of Aveiro for postgraduate studies offering high quality programs for professional training.
The objective of this postgraduate course is to offer an opportunity for electrical engineers to update their knowledge on the area of radio systems’ design.
The most recent advances on RFID systems, wireless networks, mobile phone technology, mobile communication, localization and tracking systems, will be taught in this course.

Prof. Nuno Borges Carvalho
Nuno Borges Carvalho, is an Associate Professor with “Agregação” at Universidade de Aveiro, and a Senior Research Scientist at the Instituto de Telecomunicações. His main research interests include characterization and measurement of nonlinear circuits/systems, nonlinear distortion analysis and design of dedicated radios and systems for newly emerging wireless technologies. He is also the co-inventor of four registered patents. He is a reviewer and author of more than 100 papers in several magazines and conferences and the vice-chair of the IEEE MTT-11 Technical Committee and the chair of the URSI-Portugal Metrology group.

Prof. José Neto Vieira
José Vieira was born in Aveiro, Portugal in 1963 and received the diploma in Electrical Engineering in 1988 from the University of Coimbra. In 2000 he received is PhD degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Aveiro. He has been a professor of electrical engineering in the University of Aveiro since 1991, and a researcher at the IEETA Institute. He has been the President of the Portuguese section of the AES, since 2003. His major research interests are in the fields of digital audio, codes and signal reconstruction, compressed sensing and Software Defined Radio.

Prof. Arnaldo Oliveira
Arnaldo Oliveira received the Ph.D. degree on Electrical Engineering in 2007 from the University of Aveiro, Portugal. He also holds the B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees, both on Electronics and Telecommunications, from the same university. He is currently a researcher at Telecommunications Institute – Aveiro and since 2001 he teaches computer architecture, digital systems design, programming languages and embedded systems at the University of Aveiro, where he is now an Assistant Professor. His research interests include reconfigurable digital systems and software defined radio.

Prof. João Nuno Matos
João Nuno Matos joined Universidade de Aveiro in 1983 where is, currently, an Associate Professor and a Senior Research Scientist at the Instituto de Telecomunicações. Before that, he was in PT Inovação. Prof. Matos served his university department as the Department Head. His main research interests include the design and integration of wireless systems for short range communications and the development of smart antennas. He is a reviewer and author of more than 60 papers in several magazines and conferences.

Prof. Armando da Rocha
Armando Rocha received is PhD degree from University in Electrical Engineering in 1996 from University of Aveiro. He is currently a researcher at the Institute of Telecommunications and assistant professor at the Department of Electronics, Telecommunication and Informatics. He has been teaching mainly in the area of transmission lines, antennas and the physical layer of cellular communications. The main research interests are in the measurement and modeling of Earth-Satellite tropospheric microwave propagation channel as well the measurement and channel modeling for MIMO communication systems.

Prof. José Carlos Pedro
José Carlos Pedro is an internationally known expert on the analysis and design of various nonlinear wireless circuits, where he published one book and more than 150 papers, and teaches for more than 25 years. He was an Associate Editor for the IEEE MTT Transactions and is a reviewer for the best journals and symposia. Prof. Pedro served his university department as the Coordinator of the Scientific Council and as the Department Head. Prof. Pedro received the Marconi Young Scientist Award in 1993 and the 2000 IEE Measurement Prize. In 2007 he was elected Fellow of the IEEE.

Prof. Pedro Cabral
Pedro M. Cabral got his Electrical Engineering and Ph.D. degrees from University of Aveiro, Portugal, in 2002 and 2006, respectively. He currently is a Pos-Doc Researcher at the Telecommunications Institute in Portugal as well as an Invited Assistant Professor at University of Aveiro. His main research interests include active device nonlinear modeling, design of microwave circuits, high efficiency power amplifiers and wireless transmitter architectures. Dr. Pedro has been a reviewer for several IEEE magazines. In 2002, he received the best Electrical Engineering student prize at the University of Aveiro and in 2004 he was finalist of the Student Paper Competition presented at the IEEE International Microwave Symposium.

Prof. António Navarro
Antonio Navarro received his Enginneering degree from Coimbra University and received the MSc and PhD degrees from the same University and University of Newcastle, UK. He is currently Professor at the Aveiro University, DETI. In 2004, he was on sabbatical leave at University of Southern California-USA. From 2006 to 2010, he was Associate Editor for IEEE Trans. on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology and has served as a reviewer of several IEEE journals. He has actively been involved in some DVB TMs and in some MPEG AdGs as well as acted as a consultant to the Portuguese Frequency Regulatory Body in activities of DVB-T.
